The Physics Departments of the Universidad de Chile, Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Valparaiso, Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile, Universidad de O’Higgins and Universidad de Santiago are organizing the Southern Workshop on Granular Materials to be held in Puerto Varas, Chile, between the 3rd and 6th of December, 2018.
Our Workshop is open to contributions in topics such as: the dynamics and rheology of granular flows, segregation, discharge flows, active macroscopic particles, jamming and dense flows, acoustic propagation, propulsion in granular media, the statistical mechanics of fluidized granular matter, invasion phenomena, astrophysical applications, and so forth. We also hope to touch on practical issues, such as applications to industrial processes or soil mechanics, as they relate to the basic science aspect of granular materials.
The challenges that Granular Materials present require the combined capacity and creativity of scientists and engineers working in different areas and inevitably bearing different points of view.
The aim of the present Workshop is to create the right environment for experts from the region and the rest of the world to present their results and discuss those of others.
The workshop will take place at the Hotel Cabana del Lago in Puerto Varas, Chile.
Previous versions of the Southern Workshop on Granular Materials have been held in in Pucon (2003), Viña del Mar (2006 and 2009), Puerto Varas (2012) and Santiago (2015) all in Chile.
